Her 68th Song Contest Eurovision 2024held in Malmö, Sweden, scored this year unprecedented success in television viewing figures and on social media, attracting a huge audience both in Europe and worldwide.

Increase in viewership

A total of 163 million viewers via the 37 public broadcasters participating in Eurovision 2024 watched the live broadcasts of the two semi-finals and the grand final.

The total reach of the competition increased by 1 million compared to 2023 and by 2 million compared to 2022.

The rate television viewing of the Great Finally rose to 46.7%the highest since 2006 and almost three times the usual average of the channels that aired it (17.6%).

In the young audience (15-24 year olds), the Grand Final viewership was 58.6%the highest ever recorded.

The competition’s host country, Sweden, recorded a similar viewership to last year’s edition, with 2.3 million viewers tuning in for the Grand Final. Sweden’s viewership reached 87.3%, the highest recorded for Eurovision since 2000.

In almost half of the countries (18 out of 37), Eurovision had over 50% of viewership share, with Iceland leading the way with 96% and other Nordic countries following (Sweden 87.3%, Norway 85.5% and Finland 83.1%).

Croatia, which finished second and achieved its best result in its history, recorded the highest viewership and the largest audience share since 2006, with 1.1 million viewers and 73.2% respectively.

The appeal on TikTok

The competition is becoming more and more popular among young groups, recording the highest audience share in the history of the institution in this age group.

With the power of social media, videos with the hashtag #Eurovision2024 gathered 6.5 billion views on TikTokan increase of 1.7 billion views over the previous year.

The competition reached almost 500 million accounts on TikTok, quadrupling the reach compared to 2023.

Eurovision on Spotify

In addition, the official Eurovision 2024 playlist emerged as the most popular playlist on Spotify and was in the top 10 playlists on Apple Music worldwide on Sunday 12 May, reflecting the contest’s influence on music trends.
