After spending more than 20 years fighting over a million-dollar debt, Belo and Denilson finally made peace.
In a live interview before the Futebol Solidário game, on Globo, the samba singer hugged the former player and sang the verses: “Sunday I’m going to Maracanã, I’m going to play with the idol who is also my fan”.
Then, Belo placed a kiss on Denilson’s cheek. “That’s what Brazil wanted to see!”, said the former player. “Hello, Luciano Huck, hello, Thiaguinho!”, he joked.
In the interview, Belo said that he never stopped admiring Denilson. “My issue with Denilson has always gone beyond friendship. We have always had great affection, love and respect. He is a great professional, he was a great player. I respect him a lot. [Espero] that I can score a goal with him for Rio Grande do Sul”, said the singer.
The legal dispute between the samba singer and the former player began in 2000 and only ended last year. In 1998, Denilson bought the rights to Soweto, Belo’s former pagoda group. Two years later, however, the vocalist left the band to invest in his solo career.
Without Belo in the group, Soweto lost work. Denilson then decided to sue the singer for breach of contract and moral damages. The action was processed for 23 years and reached R$7 million. In 2023, the two managed to reach an agreement and the case was dismissed.
