The Municipality of Thessaloniki engages in a marathon relay of cultural activities, designating the Municipal Garden Theater as a point of reference for the coming months. With twenty-three musical and fifteen theatrical events, the Summer Festival at the Garden Theater opens its curtain the day after tomorrow, while just yesterday the program of the “Open Theater of the City 2024” that started in early April, while one day after the completion of the Festival, the 59th Dimitria begins.

“We want the city to be a constant festival of cultural actions and initiatives. This is a combination of leveraging the existing institutions that the city has, connecting them, supporting them more and highlighting them, and adding our own initiatives and proposals. The Summer Festival at the Garden Theater therefore reflects our intention to develop Thessaloniki into an open cultural scene with activities 365 days a year“, emphasized the mayor of Thessaloniki Stelios Angeloudis at the press conference given for the presentation of the program.

This particular Festival is taking place for the fifth year, with a renewed title.

The “Open Theater Festivals” became “Garden Theater Festivals”, then “Summer Festival” and from this year it is called “Summer Festival at the Garden Theater». “One of our main commitments is the organization of a new institution that will connect culture with the monuments of the city during the summer months. So because we want it to have an identity, this is exactly why the Summer Festival at the Garden Theater strengthens and uses the landmark, which – I think – is deeply rooted in the consciousness of the people of Thessaloniki”, said the deputy mayor for Culture, Tourism Development and Intermunicipal Affairs. As they underlined, the even greater ambition of the organizers is to offer a quality and multifaceted program aimed at everyone, “embracing” a rich range of artistic proposals for entertainment and for … cool fun. “This year’s program includes popular artists from the fields of music, theater, stand-up comedy and of course our favorite symphony of the municipality of Thessaloniki, which in July has a very special tribute to the Beatles“, added Mr. Gakis.

Onirama and Paschalis open the curtain next Wednesday, while the events will end on September 19 with the concert of Melina Kana and Alexandros Ktistakis. In fact, this year’s program includes for the first time seven theater performances for children, one of them, “Little Gentlemen – Little Ladies” is signed by Thessaloniki’s Yiannis Servetas.

At the presentation, video messages were sent by some of the participating artists, while the event ended with live music by mezzo-soprano Stamatia Molloudis, who introduced the original StaMatia format, which combines lyrical singing with traditional Greek and oriental sounds in favorite arrangements of classics and contemporary songs.
