Protagonist of “Renascer”, Globo’s current nine o’clock soap opera, actor Marcos Palmeira, 60, became the victim of a scam by an online sales website, which manipulated a video of him with artificial intelligence to negotiate products on the platform. The image went viral on Instagram.
To the F5, Palmeira and his team say they will take action against Meta, owner of Facebook and Instagram. “If there is no specific legislation for the internet, it will be very difficult”, says the actor.
He is not the first Globo artist to experience this situation in recent months. Names such as Luciano Huck, Marcos Mion, William Bonner, Sandra Annenberg, among others, have already been used by criminals to sell products.
In the case of Marcos Palmeira, the video, posted by Portal Black Friday, used part of a previously posted image of him, but manipulating his voice to sell a set of drills from the company Bosch.
The company has no contact with the website in question and is a victim of the story, something confirmed by Marcos Palmeira’s team. Bosch only found out about the situation when it was alerted by consumers and the actor himself.
In addition to using Marcos Palmeira’s face, criminals manipulate the image and voice of anonymous and famous people in their advertisements, which are paid to be broadcast, promoted and targeted at specific audiences.
“This false campaign, with my voice altered with artificial intelligence resources in a clearly amateurish way, is a sign of the times we are living in. If there is no specific legislation for the internet, it will become very difficult. We cannot confuse fraud and fake news with freedom of expression”, says the interpreter.
“Consumers, and Brazilians in general, must be very attentive, not only with false product campaigns, but also with this flood of fake news that invades our lives and, unfortunately, still deceives many people”, he concluded.
