by

Next Friday (14), Pope Francis will meet with 200 comedy artists from around the world. The representatives of Brazil will be Fábio Porchat and Cris Wersom.

The duo will meet the pontiff at the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace and discuss “the impact of the art of comedy on the contemporary world.”

The artists were invited by the Dicastery for Culture and Education and the Dicastery for Communication.

“The visit aims to establish a bridge between the Catholic Church and the main protagonists in the field of humor,” stated the Vatican in the invitation letter.

In his message sent to guests, the pope highlighted the capacity of comic art to “dream new versions of the world.”

According to Cris’ press office, the selection was made by the cardinal responsible for Brazil at the Vatican.

“Being called by the Pope to a conference with only comedians was the most unusual and wonderful invitation I could receive in my life. I’m not a religious person, but I have a lot of faith in the transformative power of Pope Francis. And of course, I have a lot of faith in transformative power of humor and art”, said Cris Wersom to the press.

Graduated from USP’s School of Dramatic Art, the actress, screenwriter and playwright is currently on air with the sitcom “Tem Que Suar” on Multishow, of which she is the creator and final screenwriter.

In 2023, Cris wrote “Missão Porto Seguro” for Amazon and participated in the soap opera “Vai na Fé” on Globo as Sabrina. In cinema, she acted in and wrote “Um Dia Cinco Estrelas” and “Uma Avogada Brilhante” for Netflix, both with Leandro Hassum.

Between 2018 and 2021, Cris presented the program “A Culpa é da Carlota” on Comedy Central and starred in the thriller “A Casa da Árvore”. At the theater, Cris is currently playing “Still Lives”, a comedy about female maturity.
