Dimitra Papadopoulou’s successful comedy returns to the Atrium of the Cultural Center this summer, directed by Christos Tripodis “Greek World”, in a new production by the Methexis company. The role of Grandpa is performed by Tasos Chalkias. With him, Krateros Katsoulis, Marilou Katsafadou, Dimitra Stogianni, Iro Pektesis and Aris Antonopoulos.

A grandfather, three extravagant granddaughters, a “cop”, an ideological young man, a “murder” and a romantic lentil dinner lead a god-crazy Greek family into hilarious situations. Three sisters at a turning point in their lives, the anarchist Popi, who “falls” in love with a “cop”, the frightened Fofi, who declares her personal revolution and sets new terms and rules in her life and, the careerist Maria, who aims to finally become a mother, they get involved in rampant misunderstandings. The connecting link of all, the left-wing and demented Pappus, who becomes the ideological inspiration for the founding of the new political movement, named “Psaxou”. The movement created by Haris, Maria’s partner, aspires to be the voice of the younger generation of Greeks.

The legendary “Grandfather” by Dimitra Papadopoulou after the 1997 and 2012 uploads comes back powerfully to bring joy and laughter to our summer evenings and with more “pressure” than ever.

Author’s Note Dimitras Papadopoulou:

Globally, comedy is an endangered species. Everywhere I learn that the producers “look for comedy and don’t find comedy”… It is an era when drama, pain, violence, mental illnesses and “splatery” are superfluous in the spectacle. Why; Because comedy presupposes magnanimity, which means I don’t take myself seriously, which means I know my insignificance, even the insignificance of my problem, and I have the fortitude to be able to distance myself and laugh at it.

he can easily move emotions in easy ways such as deaths, diseases, blood, violent explosions and such cuteness. Breaking a head eg. or disembowelling someone and with the upgrade of the image and the richness of the effects, abundant emotions and emotions are easily evoked while laughter is a much more difficult mechanism to produce and move strong emotions. For all this and so much more that for the sake of economy I stop here, comedy remains a species to disappear, a species to be museum.
But I will always fight for this species because it is the only species that my soul values.

The grandfather has pressure is my first play written in a difficult time for me but in which there was an excess of love for people. What is certain is that in order to do comedy you must above all love people and not want to stain them with any of your toxins and seek to give joy from your excess. And to this day, fortunately, a lot of people have laughed at this play. I don’t want to share any other feelings with you. I hope I always have the strength that difficulties can keep me in this alchemical process of comedy. I think there is no greater gift than this kind. Good fun from an old time of mine that got laughed at and that I hope this show can pull off once again.
