According to what has become known, from the report of Nikos Nikoliza – who is also the editor of her book Kate Gray– in Espresso newspaper the grandson of Kostas Iliadisthrough the lawyer of Othona Papadopoulos sent an extrajudicial letter to the production company of the movie “I exist” for his life Stelios Kazantzidisstating:

“According to information I received from press reports, your company has announced the production of a film with the purpose of transferring, on the big screen, the biography of the great folk singer Stelios Kazantzidis. As it is typically stated, the subject of this particular film will be “the family, the loves, the claims and the great career of the late artist”.

In relation to publications and reports that have existed in the past regarding the personal relationship that the great performer maintained with – legally represented by me and my grandmother – Katie Gray, I inform you and ask you to take into account that during her release by the Livani publishing house of the book by Vassilis Vassilikos entitled “Yparcho”, which was a biography of the great Greek singer based – supposedly – on his confidations to the author, an intense legal dispute had been caused and Mrs. Gray had turned so in both the civil and criminal courts, citing that the way in which her personal relationship with Kazantzidis was described in the aforementioned book affected her as a woman and an artist and included descriptions that had nothing to do with reality, which was consciously falsified , mentioning characteristically “what he says about me is false and pitiful”.

In this particular book it is falsely, maliciously and slanderously stated that Kate Gray, in the context of her personal relationship with him, and during the time they were engaged, had caused many problems for Stelios Kazantzidis, both in his personal and professional life .
In addition, you are reminded that against the author of the specific book and the publishing house that was responsible for its circulation, the iconic singer himself had taken legal action, requesting the modification of the sections that related to his relationship with Katie Gray, directly challenging and in the most official manner the substantial validity and truthfulness of the relevant reports.

With all the above data, I draw your attention to the transfer in your film work of the descriptions concerning the relationship of the central character with Katie Gray, given that this transfer should be done in a way that does not contradict the reality, not to affect the honor, reputation, dignity and reputation of the persons involved and not to convey facts and narratives that have been denied by Stelios Kazantzidis himself.
For these reasons, I request:

1) To avoid, during the film adaptation of the biography of the great folk singer Stelios Kazantzidis, any reference that would affect the honor and reputation of the great folk singer Kate Gray, legally represented by me.

2) Do not include malicious slanders in your film work that have been directly and unreservedly denied by Stelios Kazantzidis himself.

3) Do not make the slightest insult to the personality, artistic contribution and privacy of Kate Gray’s individual life. Otherwise, I let you know that I intend to take all the actions expressly provided for by the relevant legislation.”

With the above court order, the grandson of Costas Iliadis, for whom Kate Gray has a particular weakness, wants to prevent any mention of his grandmother’s name which would not be consistent with her history or with her honor and reputation, which the legendary singer herself defended all these years and fiercely defended!
