Sir Rod Stewart appeared to boo at a concert in Germany when photos of the Ukrainian president were shown. The 79-year-old singer, who has spoken out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, performed on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Leipzig’s Quarterback Immobilien Arena.

Before performing the 1991 hit, “Rhythm Of My Heart”, – which he calls a war song and has dedicated to Kiev in recent concerts – the Ukrainian flag was projected on the screen behind the singer.

Images of Volodymyr Zelensky were then shown, prompting boos and jeers from the crowd. Videos on social media show the audience heckling the singer as he greets the Ukrainian president. The singer has been regularly condemning Russia since 2022.

In October 2022, the singer revealed that he had rented and furnished a house for a family of seven Ukrainian refugees.

“Words could not describe what we were seeing,” he told the “Daily Mirror” at the time. “The bombing of innocent children, the bombing of hospitals… I don’t wish this on anyone. This is evil, pure evil.”
