Felipe Neto, 36, found an unusual way to pay homage to the writer Machado de Assis (1839-1908), whose birth turns 185 this Friday (21). The digital influencer did an essay inspired by “Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas” and published it on his social networks.

In the images, Felipe appears inside a real coffin, which was ordered from a funeral home especially for the occasion. He appears holding the 1881 work in his hands and says that his intention is to boost sales for the author, of whom he says he is a fan.

It is worth remembering that the classic of Brazilian literature is a work narrated by a character who is already dead and remembers the stories of the life he had. “To the worm that first gnawed at the cold flesh of my corpse I dedicate these posthumous memories with fond memory”, says the first sentence of the book.

“To honor Machado de Assis, anything goes, even entering a cold coffin to symbolize Brás Cubas”, commented the influencer to F5. “I confess that I wouldn’t do this for another author and I don’t highly recommend the experience.”

He explains that the author is one of his favorites. “Machado de Assis is one of the greatest artists of all time”, praises Felipe. “For me, in the literary world, he is on the same shelf as Shakespeare, Kafka and Dostoevsky.”

The photos also aim to make your audience engage in reading this and other classics by the writer. “If I can influence some of my followers to embark on reading Machado, I will feel like I did a great job,” he says.

Recently, the influencer announced the launch of the Felipe Neto Book Club, which already had more than 100 thousand subscribers even before its official launch and should work along the same lines as those created by other celebrities. The idea is to recommend readings to your fans in videos, posts and analyzes for free. Anyone who wants to can also pay a subscription to participate in lives and debates with him about the works.

Despite being a project created in partnership with Companhia das Letras, he says he will act independently and promote books from various publishers. Felipe also says that the idea of monetizing the club is to be able to invest in spreading reading and promoting events and visits to schools.
