THE Suzanne Kennedy, one of the most influential creators of her generation, along with the visual artist Marcus Zelg present on July 4th and 5th at Piraeus 260 the sensational performance “Angela (a strange loop)” as part of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival.

The life of a woman suffering from an illness is put under the microscope on stage. Kennedy explores with a futuristic aesthetic the dynamic relationship between the human body, technology and art in the post-pandemic era. What is the nature of reality? How is the self constituted? What does it mean to be human?

The Wonderful, Cruel World of Suzanne Kennedy

Suzanne Kennedy doesn’t leave things in the middle. The world he creates has its own logic, its own rules, its own morality. The focus of the show is the daily life of Angela, an influencer who posts videos on YouTube. Through the prism of her mysterious illness we have the opportunity to watch the moments that intervene in a woman’s life from birth to her death.

Seducing us into a postmodern, multimedia approach to reality, the German director raises the fundamental questions of existence and identity. “All people face their demons at some point. We reach a crossroads—sometimes through an illness, sometimes through a loss or a crisis—and we realize that, yes, we need to change,” Kennedy says.

Suzanne Kennedy and Markus Selg work together since 2016. Susanne Kennedy, a regular contributor to the Volksbüne, is one of the most distinctive voices in European theatre. He was introduced to the Greek public in 2019 with the performance “Autochires parthenoi” as part of the Athens Festival.

Her works constitute an influential undertaking of transferring reality to the stage. It explores the blurred boundaries between body and machine. Through the use of recorded dialogue, effigies, masks and multimedia her performances challenge fixed representations of reality and invite us to question who we are and what is the reason for our existence.

Markus Selg is a multimedia artist who seeks the intersection of ancient mythology, digital technology and human consciousness. In his works he explores the possibilities and consequences of the fact that we live in a digital world characterized by the constant flow of data and information.
