Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds to donate up to R$5 million to Ukrainian refugees

Actor couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds decided to engage in humanitarian aid dedicated to Ukrainian refugees. According to the UN (United Nations), 368,000 people have already left the European country since the Russian invasion of the country, which took place last Thursday (24).

The actors announced on their social media profiles that, in an attempt to motivate followers to help Ukrainians, they would match donations up to US$1 million. On Twitter, the two retweeted the post by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the US, which informed their commitment.

“Within 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes and go to neighboring countries. They need protection. When you donate, we’ll match up to $1 million, creating double the support,” wrote the Deadpool star.

In this way, with each amount donated, the actors guarantee that they will combine and duplicate what was contributed. So if someone donates $1, they will also donate $1.

In addition to Lively and Reynolds, other celebrities also criticized the war in Ukraine. Actress Hayden Panettiere, 32, called the Russian attack on Ukraine an “absolute shame” and said she was praying for her family and friends in the European country and that she would have liked to be there to fight with them. Actor Sean Penn, 61, who is shooting a documentary in the country, defined the war as a “brutal mistake” and sympathized with the moment that Ukrainians are going through.

Actor Mark Ruffalo, singer The Weeknd and Brazilian artists such as Marcos Pasquim, Luciano Huck, Marcos Mion, Zélia Duncan, Thammy Miranda and Giovanna Ewbank have also spoken.
