Neto reaches agreement with Sampaoli after lawsuit and announces the coach’s charitable action

by

After being ordered to pay R$500,000 to football coach Jorge Sampaoli for calling him racist, sports commentator and former player Neto reached an agreement with the coach to end the legal battle.

With that, in addition to the apology during an online hearing, Neto decided to publicize a charity event by Sampaoli on his social media. He will also be expected to help with some contribution.

On social media, Neto published an image of the event called Copa Sampaoli, which will take place in Rocinha on July 6 and will award young players with trophies and medals.

“What’s up, kiddo? I’m happy to have ended the problem with Sampaoli and even more so to be able to help with this wonderful event he organized in Rocinha. Doing good is always excellent,” wrote the commentator in the post.

In November of last year, former player Neto and Band had been sentenced in the first instance to pay R$500,000 to the former commander of teams such as Santos and Flamengo in Brazilian football, due to an accusation of racism that was not proven by the Corinthians idol.

The case was being heard in the 1st Civil Court of the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice). Sampaoli claimed that Neto and Band had injured his honor. On the program Os Donos da Bola on April 18 of that year, Neto said that former player Serginho

Chulapa confided in him in an interview that Sebastião Martins Oliveira Júnior, better known as Arzul, Santos’ goalkeeping coach, had been mistreated by the coach.

Neto, therefore, said that there was racism on Sampaoli’s part. “He [Jorge Sampaoli] He was racist at Santos, he never greeted anyone, he never spoke Portuguese: ‘Please, no, sir, I’m sorry…’. That short guy, that idiot. That’s a disgrace, he’s small, he doesn’t know anything about football. It’s a disgrace that Flamengo hired a guy like that,” he said at the time.

On the same day, on the program Baita Amigos!, on the paid channel BandSports, he went deeper into the accusations: “A guy who treats Arzul badly, who is black. And who is just like me, just like you and who is an incredible human being. This guy, Jorge Sampaoli, made Arzul stay out of the locker room. He made many people hired before him lose their jobs. This guy is disgusting. He has never treated anyone well.”

In his testimony to the court, however, Arzul denied that Sampaoli had committed any racist acts against him or other Santos employees. Serginho Chulapa did not appear to testify.
