The work is inspired by Andy Warhol
Two artists in the Hamptons transformed his arrest photo Justin Timberlake in artwork inspired by Andy Warhol.
Interior decorator and painter Robert Lohman teamed up with photographer friend Mary Godfrey to release a limited-edition series of inkjet prints on canvas featuring the photo the star won’t want to remember. Within a few days it not only managed to attract the interest of the residents but is about to sell out.
“Disappears from the shelves” says its creator, Robert Lohman. “We are now working hard to meet the incoming orders!”
It is noted that the singer was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol in Sag Harbor, New York, on Monday night, June 17. According to court documents, Timberlake drove his car through a STOP sign while the officer stated that he was “intoxicated.”
“When I first saw the image of Timberlake, I said, ‘It’s iconic.’ And I felt the need to develop it,” the creator told Artnet News. “Warhol’s genius was knowing which images could capture a moment in time, and Justin’s photo seemed to me to do just that. I thought it deserved a Warhol approach and I think he would agree.”he added.
The portrait, which is released in four versions, is titled “Tuesday Night Out Featuring Justin Timberlake” and sold at Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor for $520. It is located directly across the street from the American Hotel, where the singer dined earlier on the night of the arrest.
“People are queuing up to take pictures from the window. We receive calls from all over the world, as well as from every state in the US”, said the owner of the gallery. “It’s a moment in history, a moment in time. People identify with Timberlake and in a sense feel sorry for what happened, as do I.”
“If it continues to be popular we will look for other colors – just like Warhol did”Lohman concluded, while promising that the price would not change.
