With two weeks to go until the start of the Paris Games, Brazilian women’s volleyball is going through a turbulent phase. Since Monday (8), Sheilla Castro has not been seen at the team’s training camp in Saquarema (RJ). She was a member of the coaching staff and her name was involved in a controversy that ended up being one of the most talked about topics on social media.
Last Sunday (7), one day before Sheilla left the training camp, a fake profile came to light that had allegedly been created by her to speak badly of her ex-girlfriend, player Gabi Guimarães.
The two recently ended their low-key romance amid arguments and alleged betrayal. Internet users were worried that the dispute could affect the team’s performance at the Paris Olympics.
The profile, now deleted and named Piero, in English, used X (old Twitter) to say that Gabi was more interested in drinking and going out than in preparing for the matches.
And, after a follower responded to what the profile said, Sheilla’s official account responded, also in English, as if she had forgotten to log out of one account to log in with the other. The case generated a lot of buzz, and neither of the two, when contacted, commented on the case.
When contacted, the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation stated that Sheilla will not participate in person in this phase of training in Saquarema, but did not explain whether the reason has anything to do with the controversy. “She continues to be part of the women’s team’s coaching staff,” it said.
Regarding the trip to the Games, the CBV says that “Sheilla’s trip to Paris was not scheduled. Just as Serginho’s trip with the men’s team is not scheduled. Neither of them are accredited by the CBV for the Olympic Games.”
