Actor Rafael Cardoso, 38, will pay a fine of just two minimum wages to have the case in which he is accused of assaulting an elderly man shelved.

The artist accepted a deal proposed by the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor’s Office to end the bodily harm case he was facing. The Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor’s Office gave the accused the option of paying the fine or performing four months of community service.

The attack took place in February of this year, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio. The victim, João Brito, 64, is the manager of a bar located on Avenida Lúcio Costa.

In an interview with Domingo Espetacular (Record) last Sunday (14), the victim reported that Rafael kicked and punched him in the stomach and face. Part of the attacks were recorded by the establishment’s security cameras. After being restrained by bar employees, the actor fled the scene.

Rafael Cardoso admitted to the crime. The actor’s press office stated at the time that he was under the influence of medication at the time of the fight, but that “this does not justify the mistake”. The amount of R$2,824 paid by the actor will be donated to an animal protection institution.

Former Globo heartthrob, Cardoso is known for starring in soap operas such as “Além do Tempo” and “A Vida da Gente”, as well as having prominent roles in several others such as “Salve-se Quem Puder”, “Espelho da Vida”, “Império” and “O Outro Lado do Paraíso”.
