Nearly two years after Naya Rivera’s death, the actress’ family has closed a financial settlement with Ventura County, California. Santana’s interpreter in the series “Glee” died in July 2020 after accidentally drowning in a lake in the region.
Rivera’s family has filed a lawsuit against the county and the company that manages the Lake Piru area where the accident occurred. According to E! News, a financial settlement between the parties was filed on February 24. A court hearing is scheduled for March 16 to formalize the resolution of the case.
to the E! News, representatives of Josey Dorsey, 6, son of the actress and who was with her on the day of the accident, confirmed the information. “With this arrangement, Josey will be compensated for having to deal with her mother’s drowning in Lake Piru. While her mother’s tragic loss can never be overcome, we are delighted that the financial arrangement will significantly assist Josey in her life after the tragedy.” , says the statement.
Naya Rivera had rented a boat to take her son around the region. According to police investigations, the two jumped into the lake to swim, but had problems. She managed to get her son out of the water and put him back on the boat, but would have drowned later.
“The boy told investigators he looked back [ao subir no barco] and saw her disappear into the water. We believe she mustered up enough energy to get her son back on the boat, but she couldn’t save herself,” sheriff Bill Ayub said at the time.
The boat was found adrift hours later with Josey sleeping inside. Naya Rivera’s body was found five days after her disappearance.
