Marcelo Cosme posted on social media this Thursday (25) and spoke about having been the target of homophobia by Emílio Surita, from Pânico (Jovem Pan). The presenter of the program mocked the mannerisms of the journalist, who is gay, in charge of a GloboNews news program. The comment received a lot of criticism on the web.
“We never expect to be the target of discrimination, even when it is there, always like a ghost for those who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community,” Cosme wrote on Instagram. The journalist spoke about the persistence of prejudice, whether against homosexuals, black people or women, and said that it needs to be seen as a crime.
“Some people’s fun can represent and encourage punches in the street, lamps on the head and other attacks. We need to evolve and not go backwards. Crime needs to be seen as crime,” said Cosme.
The journalist also said that he will not stop taking a stand on the LGBTQIA+ cause. “I have a family that loves me, friends who respect me, coworkers who support me and even strangers who embrace me. And who doesn’t? Who is silenced, abused, suffocated, killed? It is for myself and for them that I will always take a stand against any type of prejudice, it is part of my role as a citizen and a journalist.” “Love and respect are the way,” he concluded.
At the time, during the broadcast of the program, Surita was walking through the studios and decided to interact with his colleagues saying: “I’m going like this, walking comfortably, well Caetano Veloso, well GloboNews. What do you call that guy who does that show at night, the nice guy?”, he asked, in a mocking tone, to his fellow panelists who then mentioned Marcelo Cosme’s name. Later, due to the negative repercussion, Jovem Pan apologized.
