After moving the audience at the opening ceremony of the Olympics this Friday (26), Céline Dion thanked the opportunity and wrote an encouraging message to the athletes.
In the text, published on her social media, she talks about the athletes’ dreams and their “stories of pain and sacrifice”. “Come home with or without a medal, being here means that this dream has come true,” she wrote.
This was the first time in five years that the artist, who suffers from a neurological disease, performed publicly.
About a month ago, a documentary about the singer’s life and career premiered on streaming. The film shows in detail the suffering caused by the so-called Stiff Person Syndrome, which she discovered in 2022. The disease causes loss of muscle control, convulsions and intense pain.
The 56-year-old Canadian singer has already performed at another edition of the Olympics, in Atlanta, in 1996 — a time when she was at the height of her career.
“I am honored to perform tonight at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. I am thrilled to be back in one of my favorite cities and, most importantly, I am happy to be celebrating these incredible athletes with their stories of sacrifice, determination, pain and perseverance,” the singer wrote on Instagram.
“You have all been so focused on your dream and whether you come home with or without a medal, I hope that being here means that dream has come true. You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart goes out to you,” the singer wrote.
