Brazil’s first collective medal in artistic gymnastics was not only impressive to Brazilians. Considered one of the greatest gymnasts in the world, Simone Biles was, at the very least, impressed by Rebeca Andrade’s performance at the Paris Olympics.
However, the two big names will still face each other at the Games in four other categories: individual all-around, floor, vault and beam. The first event will be on Thursday (1st).
Biles’ reaction to the end of Rebeca’s historic performance went viral on social media. She watched the São Paulo gymnast’s performance up close, watched it on the big screen, and made a face like “Wow!” Brazilians, of course, joked: “I felt it!” “She’s scared,” said Hirlandia Veras’ profile. “I’m hoping she’ll fall, but she didn’t this time,” said @MoraesGondim. “She’s amazed, strong competition,” said @andretira. “She doesn’t even tremble,” said another internet user excitedly.
Last to appear in the team competition, the Brazilian achieved a score of 15.100, the best of the night and elevated Brazil to third place, which guaranteed the country bronze in the category.
“Sleep with your eyes wide open because Rebeca will hunt you down individually,” shared @anittxsiegel.
Despite the rivalry, many users said that the American seems like a good person. “I lack hatred for this dear, unfortunately I can’t root against her,” wrote @ThyanneRibeiro.
