Serena Williams, businesswoman and tennis player with 23 Grand Slam titles (the main tournaments on the world circuit: Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open), was barred from one of the most popular restaurants in the French capital, The Peninsula Paris. The incident took place on Sunday (4) and the American was accompanied by her husband and daughters.
Williams took to social media to complain about the situation. “Damn @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to the terrace to eat at an empty restaurant at nicer places but never with my kids. Always a first. #Olympic2024,” Williams wrote on the X, adding a melting face emoji with rolling eyes.
Shortly after the post, the restaurant, known for its privileged views of the Eiffel Tower, responded and apologized to Serena. “Please accept our deepest apologies for the disappointment you encountered this evening. Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was really full, and the only empty tables you saw belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was reserved.”
The establishment, which has an average main course dinner price of 115 euros (R$726, at the current exchange rate), concluded: “We have always been honored to welcome you and we will always be honored to welcome you again. The Peninsula Paris.”
