The actor is founding a foundation to help other people suffering from Angelman syndrome
Actor Collin Farrell gave a rare interview and talked about his life with his 20-year-old son, James, who suffers from Angelman syndrome.
Angelman syndrome (AS) is a complex genetic disorder that affects the nervous system, causing developmental delays, seizures and learning disabilities. AS affects about 1 in 12,000 to 20,000 people and is characterized by developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, movement difficulties and a cheerful mood, often accompanied by frequent laughing, smiling and irritability.
His son’s case is quite serious, as the actor explained, as James cannot speak – and not only that – so he receives daily care from a caregiver.
Colin, who is setting up a foundation to help other people with Angelman syndrome, spoke movingly of his love for his son. “I want people to be kind to James. I want people to treat him with kindness and respect”the 48-year-old actor told People.
The actor shares James with his ex, Kim Bordenave, and has another son, 14-year-old Henry, with Alicja Bachleda-Curús, his 2009 Ondine co-star. “I’m proud of him every day because I think he’s magical”the actor said with emotion.
