Between samba circles, stages, trips and caipirinhas, the question Diogo Nogueira hears most is, by far, about marriage and children with Paolla Oliveira. The two always answer that they are already married, since they live together, and that children are not a certainty.
What few people know is that the singer is already a father. And has been for a long time. More specifically, for 18 years. This is the age of Davi, Diogo’s son with Milena Rocha, his ex-wife, to whom he was married between 2003 and 2018.
The boy lives with his father, who talks about their relationship. “Whenever we can, we go to restaurants, he accompanies me to shows and trips… And we’re learning to surf too. Anyway, we do things like, I think, all parents do with their children,” Diogo tells F5.
Davi says that, for him, it is not at all unusual to have a famous father: “My father is a normal guy, like any father. We talk a lot, he scolds me, like any father.” Diogo asks to speak and adds: “I try to make up for this in the best way possible. The relationship of friendship, understanding, conversation. I think that is what makes the difference.”
Davi also guarantees that Paolla is a great stepmother: “We get along very well, we understand each other. She is a person who loves to talk, but also scolds and gives advice.” The actress is yet another famous person who joins the boy’s family.
It is worth taking a step back and remembering that Diogo comes from a lineage of artists: his father was the samba singer João Nogueira. His grandfather, João Batista Nogueira, played with Pinxinguinha, and his aunt, Gisa Nogueira, is also a singer and composer.
“The habit of being an artist came naturally and the learning I had from my father is the same that I teach Davi. We are people, we have to respect others, be humble and live with our feet on the ground.”
Heir to so many musicians, Davi grew up among shows, samba circles and instruments and received the family’s musical legacy: he plays some instruments that his father taught him, such as guitar, cavaquinho and percussion, and is very eclectic: he listens to everything.
About to finish school, he says he loves music, but he doesn’t know yet if he will follow the path of most of his family: “My parents have always encouraged me to do what I like and music doesn’t interfere with anything I’m going to do. If I go to college, I can study music. And it can be with me forever. It’s in my DNA.”
Diogo says there is no pressure and that his son will follow the path he wants: “Time will tell, his intentions regarding what he wants from his professional life are what matters.” The father lists some qualities he sees in his son. “He has a future, he is intelligent, he learns quickly, he has everything to become a great musician, a great artist or a great marketer,” says the father, revealing one of his son’s interests.
And it may be that one of Diogo’s new projects will help boost this last possibility. The singer has taken charge of his artistic career, setting up Orin Produções, a production company that he will run alongside his sister, Clarisse Nogueira. “I’m working almost every day. I decided to take a little more care of my career,” he says.
The singer, and now businessman, says he is at an age to set up projects and pursue his dreams, even to leave another legacy for his son. “I think I’m young, I’m 43 years old, I have a lot of sweat to give. I’m still going to slow down one day, so that, who knows, this guy can take over this position and I can really rest,” he jokes.
And regarding the possibility of becoming a father again, the singer emphasizes that it exists, but that it may not come to fruition. “People want it more than the couple themselves. The desire is not ours, it is the people’s. The possibility of having it exists, obviously. As does the possibility of not having it. So, for now, it is a no. It is not an obligation for anyone to be a father.”
