Marilia Mendonça’s family and friends participated in a service in honor of the singer this Thursday (11), at the Assembly of God Church, in Goiânia. The artist died at the age of 26 on November 5 in a plane accident that had four other fatalities: Henrique Ribeiro, producer of Marilia, Abicieli Silveira Dias Filho, uncle of the singer, as well as pilot Geraldo Martins de Medeiros and co-pilot Tarcísio Pessoa Viana.
“I want to thank my family, who are all here. Guys, the loss is great, it’s too much pain. I lost my brother, I lost my daughter and a producer who was almost a son, but God has strengthened me,” said Ruth Moreira, mother of Marilia, as reported by the G1.
On Monday (8), she had expressed herself about the tragic death through her social networks, when she published a photo on Instagram Stories with her daughter, to the sound of the gospel song Jó, by Midian Lima. She highlighted an excerpt from the song that says, “God gave me, God took, blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Maiara and Maraisa, and Henrique and Juliano also participated in the cult on this Thursday (11), as well as Murilo Huff, ex-boyfriend of Marília and father of Leo, the singer’s son for almost 2 years.
“What Marilia really wanted is for us to come and rejoice in God’s name. To thank and praise God for the 26 years that God left her with me. For the legacy she left here. Good daughter, good mother,” said Ruth.
Maiara and Maraisa sang a religious song in honor of their friend. “Thank you God for allowing us to honor our friend. And let’s honor it until the end,” said Maiara, who cried in the middle of the song. The ceremony was restricted to relatives and close friends of the artist.

Known as the queen of suffering and one of the greatest voices in contemporary Brazilian music, Marilia Mendonça was one of five victims of a plane accident that fell into a mountain range in Piedade de Caratinga, 309 kilometers from Belo Horizonte. The artist had a concert scheduled for the date in Caratinga, about ten kilometers from the accident site.
