No damage was caused to the Archaeological Museum of Marathon and the archaeological sites of the Municipality of Marathon (Ramnos, Tomb of Athena, sanctuary of Egyptian gods in Brexiza, Neas Makris), from the fire on August 11, in Attica, announced the Ephorate of Antiquities of Eastern Attica of the Ministry of Culture.

It is pointed out that the aforementioned areas are located at a distance from the points where the fire developed.

To archaeological site of Dionysus (Ikarion) there is currently no access to perform an autopsy. However, it is noted that the areas were exhaustively cleaned and deforested.

For precautionary reasons and mainly due to the burdened atmosphere, from thick smoke that covers the entire coastal front of Eastern Attica, the archaeological sites and the Marathon museum will remain, for the time being, closed.

The public has been informed through the website of the EPA.

As regards the scattered individual visible or standing monuments of the responsibility of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Eastern Attica, within the limits of the Municipalities of Marathon, Dionysos and Penteli, autopsies will follow, as soon as conditions permit.
