Investigated as a drug trafficker in the case of the death of actor Matthew Perry (1969-2023), Erik Fleming, 54, was once very active in Hollywood. He was the director of Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes in the film “My Brother the Pig” (1999) and producer of the first season of the reality show “The Surreal Life” (2003).

The investigation is leading to a possible conviction of Fleming. If this happens, he could face a sentence of 25 years in prison. He is one of the five defendants, labeled as “an acquaintance of Perry” who confessed to having obtained 50 vials of ketamine from Jasveen Sangh, the “ketamine queen”, who was arrested, for about R$60 thousand. He would then have forwarded the drug to Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s assistant and another defendant in the case.

In documents filed in federal court in California, prosecutors said Perry’s assistant and an acquaintance worked with two doctors and a drug dealer to obtain thousands of dollars worth of ketamine for Perry, who had long struggled with substance abuse and addiction, in the weeks leading up to his death.

The actor, who rose to fame as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” was found floating face down in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on Oct. 28 last year. The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office said in a report released in December that Perry had died from “acute effects of ketamine.”

The autopsy stated that the level of ketamine found in Perry’s blood was equivalent to the amount that would be used during general anesthesia.

In addition to Fleming, Jasveen Sangh and Kenneth Iwamasa, Salvador Plasencia, an urgent care center physician known as “Dr. P.”, and Mark Chavez, another physician, were also indicted.

Some of those involved used encrypted messaging apps and coded language to discuss drug deals, including referring to ketamine vials as “Dr Pepper,” “cans” and “bots,” according to court documents.
