Widow of Claudinho, from the duo with Buchecha, sues cemetery for moving the singer’s remains without authorization

The widow of Claudinho, from the duo with Buchecha, Vanessa Alves Ferreira, took legal action after discovering that the singer’s remains had been removed from the perpetual burial plot in the Carmo cemetery, in the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro, and transferred to the general ossuary. She found out about the change through a fan who visited the new tomb of the singer of “Só Love”.

Claudinho died in a car accident in July 2002 and the perpetual tomb had been acquired by the record label Universal Music. The documents were registered in Vanessa’s name, who claims not to have been informed about the change or of an alleged sale to another family in 2021.

She is asking that the religious order, Venerable Archbishop Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which is responsible for the cemetery, pay R$1 million in moral damages and R$127,000 in material damages. In addition, Vanessa is asking that Claudinho’s remains be returned to the family tomb.

Vanessa also said she did not authorize the removal of the remains of Claudinho and other relatives who were at the site. She requested free legal aid after presenting several documents proving her financial situation, since the inventory of assets left by the singer is still being processed in a civil court.

The Court authorized free legal aid in the process, which continues to be processed in the 1st Regional Civil Court of Ilha do Governador, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.

THE F5 sought advice from the Venerable Archbishop Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, responsible for the cemetery: “We inform you that the Venerable Order of Carmel was not cited and will only make a statement in the records.”
