Nicole Kidman, 57, was not present at the Venice Film Festival awards ceremony on Saturday (7), for a sad reason. The actress left the event in a hurry, where she was chosen as best actress for the film “Babygirl”, after learning of the death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman.

The information was given by the film’s director, Halina Reijn, who took to the stage at the Grand Palais du Lido when the actress’ name was called. She read a message left by Kidman for the occasion. “The collision between life and art is devastating, and my heart is broken,” she said.

In the text, she dedicated the honor received at the festival to Janelle. “I’m in shock and I need to go home [perto da] “I am so grateful to my family, but this award is for her,” the actress wrote. “She shaped me, guided me, and made me. I am so grateful to be able to say her name to all of you through Halina.”

The director ended her participation with a brief message for the actress. “We love you, Nicole,” she said.

A representative for Kidman confirmed the death to People magazine. “The family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time,” he added.

In interviews, the actress has said that she had a good relationship with her mother. “Mum didn’t necessarily have the career she wanted, but she was determined to make sure her daughters had equal opportunities,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2020. “That gave me my life. And she gave me my life, her and my dad.”
