Rock is not Didi Wagner’s favorite genre. Host of Rock in Rio since 2011, on Multishow, she really likes American hip hop. As a fan of the genre, her playlist includes Tupac Shakur (1971-1996) and Naughty by Nature. “I also listen to a lot of old school artists, you know? Dr. Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dogg…”
On the eve of yet another festival (the first day of shows is this Friday, the 13th), Didi says she’s feeling more anxious than usual, and she can’t quite explain the exact reason. It’s a combination of factors. “Each event has its own excitement, its own challenge, its own unique appeal. And this has to do not only with the line-up, but also with the current state of the world and the energy of that day at the event,” she says, adding that she loves covering shows, loves working at the festival, and can’t wait for it to start.
Didi has worked for MTV, had a tourism program on TV, and launched travel guides. Performances by the world’s biggest bands and singers have been part of her routine for decades—whether as a duty to her job or for pleasure. But even with so much experience on the biggest stages in Brazil and abroad, she says there are two shows she would really like to have in her history.
“I would have loved to have seen Adele at that show she did in Munich, Germany, recently. Oh… And Lady Gaga, for sure! I’m devastated (laughs). I’ve never seen Lady Gaga. It’s a dream, a real dream.”
Regarding her expectations for the current edition of Rock in Rio, the presenter chooses a Brazilian artist as her favorite: Matuê. “I love him, I discovered him with my daughters. They gave me the tip and then I started listening to him. I really like him.”
Rapper Matuê will perform alongside Wiu and Teto this Friday (13) on the Palco Mundo stage. The following week, on September 21, he will return to the festival, once again on the main stage. The date, called “Brazil Day”, celebrates Brazilian musical diversity.
