24-year-old Idil Bilgen was crowned Miss Turkey on September 11, but she is definitely not the most beautiful woman in the country, as social media users commented.

For a week now, the crowning of Bilgen has caused a lot of reactions due to her… unusual beauty, which does not fit the profile of women participating in beauty pageants, let alone the crowned ones.

Comments made on social media said that she is “not pretty enough to be Turkey’s beauty queen”, and even more… mean-spirited, like that she “looks like a man”.

In fact, many users made humorous posts in which they compared Miss Turkey to characters from Turkish films of the 70s, in which men disguise themselves as women for comedic reasons.

Bilgen – an appointed doctor – said she was indifferent to criticism of the beauty pageant and stressed that “understanding beauty is not only a physical but also a holistic concept”.

Now, according to Hurriyet, the 24-year-old crowned queen will visit her father in Ukraine (by the way, she is the daughter of Turkey’s ambassador to Kyiv, Mustafa Levent Bilgen), and then she will start working at the Community Health Center of Bingol Yailander.
