France chose the exciting thriller “Emilia Perez”, by Jacques Audiard, to be nominated for “Best International Feature Film” at the 97th Academy Awards.

It is noted that at the Cannes Film Festival it won two important awards and received rave reviews. She was one of four films chosen by the new French committee, along with Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte’s film adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light and the thriller “Misericordia” by Alain Guiraudie.

According to the official synopsis, it “follows the journey of four remarkable women in Mexico, each in pursuit of her own happiness.”

Starring Carla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and Adriana Paz. The Spanish-language musical was acquired by Netflix for the US and UK following its Cannes premiere.

It will be released in select US theaters before streaming on Netflix on November 13. According to Deadline, the last time France won the golden statuette was in 1993 for Régis Wargnier’s Indokina.
