The government and citizens of Japan are cheering for the record Emmy Awards which the period drama series garnered “Shogun” stressing that this is another victory for their history and culture, which are becoming more and more popular with tourists and the international public.

The historical epic set in Imperial Japan won 18 awards, the most ever for a drama series.

The government welcomed the achievement and pointed out that 70% of the dialogue in the “Shogun” series was in Japanese and that Hiroyuki Sanada, who played the chief warlord Yoshii Toranaga, was involved in its production.

“We would like to further encourage Japanese creators to face the challenges of overseas producers”Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Moriya told reporters, according to Reuters.

The Japanese government also formed a committee this month to support the entertainment and content industries, he said.
