It is the British rock band’s 60th anniversary
A unique series of stamps will be released on October 17 to mark the 60th anniversary of the British rock band “The Who». Royal Mail has unveiled twelve stamps featuring their most popular album covers and live performances, according to the BBC.
A group formed in London in 1964 by great musicians, singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, drummer Keith Moon who passed away in 1978 aged 32 and bassist John Entwistle who also died in 2002 aged 57 years.
With the release of this collection, The Who become the seventh band to be honored by the British Post Offices among ‘The Beatles’, ‘Pink Floyd’, ‘The Rolling Stones’, ‘Iron Maiden’, ‘Queen’ and ‘Spice Girls’.
The album covers included in the stamp collection are ‘My Generation’ their debut album in 1965, ‘Tommy’ in 1969, ‘Who’s Next’ in 1971, ‘Quadrophenia’ in 1973, ‘Who Are You’ (1978), ‘Face Dances’ (1981), ‘Endless Wire’ in 2006 and ‘Who’ in 2019. “The art on the album covers was almost as important as the music to the success of the record. It’s great to be reminded of them” Daltrey stated.
Also included in the collection are two snapshots of the group, as well as two images from their live performances at the Marquee Club in London in 1967 and at the Belle Vue King’s Hall in Manchester in 1973.
