Dua Lipa, 26, is facing a second copyright lawsuit related to the hit “Levitating”, days after a Florida band sued the singer for alleged plagiarism.
This time, songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer claim that the single’s opening melody uses material from the songs “Wiggle and Giggle All Night” from 1979 and “Don Diablo” from 1980.
According to British newspaper The Guardian, the songwriters highlighted interviews in which the singer “admitted that she deliberately emulated previous eras” and “took inspiration” for the sound of her 2020 album “Future Nostalgia”.
The lawsuit alleges that the “signature tune” of the intro to “Levitating” copied a similar part of the aforementioned songs, an intro that would have helped the song’s success on the social network TikTok.
The lawsuit names Dua Lipa, her label Warner Music Group and rapper DaBaby, who appeared on a remix of the song. “In seeking nostalgic inspiration, the defendants copied the plaintiffs’ creations without attribution,” Brown and Linzer allege.
Last week, Lipa was sued by Florida-based band Artikal Sound System, who claimed that “Levitating” was so similar to the song on “Live Your Life” that it was “highly unlikely that ‘Levitating’ would be independently created.” “. The singer did not respond to any of the allegations.
