“It was with pain that I learned of the loss of Maria Tapanli-Dania, of an outstanding architect and distinguished public servantwith an extensive contribution to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage. Her long and fruitful service at the Ministry of Culture was sealed by her tenure at the Newer Monuments Service of the North Aegean, in Mytilini, which she directed from its establishment in 1995.

Its stamp is, completely sampled, the emergence of the Teriad Museum, the restoration of the Old Town Hall in Mytilini and the restoration of the Ottoman bath in Mithymna. But also the Museum of Democracy in Agios Efstratios, the restored Shaktouri house in Myrina of Lemnos and the restoration of the minaret of the Metziti Mosque in Chios. At the same time, Maria Tapanli-Dania contributed to the protection and promotion of the newest monumental stock through her participation in most official bodies, the main one being the Central Council of Newest Monuments.

Maria Tapanli-Dania combined dedication to duty with the ability to transform her solid knowledge and many years of experience into meaningful activity. Characteristics that I was lucky enough to see in our long-term collaboration, during which Maria became a valuable advisor, willing to steer on the right path, but also to carry out complex initiatives and ventures.
