Al Pacino he is also father to Julie, 34, with Jan Tarrant, and twins Anton and Olivia, 23, with actress Beverly D’Angelo.
The “Godfather” star reflected on what it’s like to have a new baby at such an old age. “Well, it’s always the same. It’s always the same,” he said. “It’s a small miracle. That’s all I can say.”
Pacino has written a new memoir titled ‘Sonny Boy’. In a recent interview with the “New York Times” he stated that the birth of his youngest child was part of his inspiration to write the book. “That’s one of the reasons, of course”the actor pointed out. ‘Sonny Boy’ will be released on October 15.
“I wrote Sonny Boy to express what I have seen and experienced in my life”the actor said. “It’s been an incredibly personal and revelatory experience to reflect on that journey, what acting has allowed me to do and the worlds it’s opened up to me.” The book traces his storied career, from his New York theater days to his most famous roles and collaborations, and further highlights the “spirit of love and purpose”as he says himself, that guided his course. The actor writes about his childhood in the Bronx, as well as his early artistic leanings.
The Italian-American Alfredo James Pacino was born in 1940 in Manhattan, New York. His nickname was ‘Sonny Boy’, as is the title of his book. Sonny Boy was the title of a song by the actor and singer Al Jolson, which Pacino imitated when he was three years old. His parents divorced, his father left for California, and little Al moved in with his mother Rose, in her parents’ house, in the Bronx.
His grandfather, who was Italian from the Sicilian village of Corleone, played a large role in his upbringing and together with his mother, who often took him to the movies, strongly supported his desire to become an actor. His family was poor and, as he himself has said, his mother did not live to experience his recognition, for which she would have been very happy…
