A short circuit on a light pole in front of Sofia restaurant, owned by chef Kátia Barbosa, shocked the customers who were having lunch this Friday (11).
The fire started around 12:30 p.m. “The house was full. We removed the customers and closed”, lamented the chef in an interview with F5. Kátia says she waited around 40 minutes for firefighters to assist her. No one was injured and the structure of the restaurant was not damaged.
“It started to catch fire on the pole and then it licked everything”, reported the chef, who attributed the fire to the lack of maintenance of the electrical wires. “This type of incident exposes the lack of maintenance. The poles look like a tangle of wires,” he complained.
The restaurant remains without power until Friday night, but is expected to reopen on Saturday (12). In a video sent to the report, Kátia shows the intact dishes, bottles of wine and even belongings left behind by customers. “Sad result. It looks like a hurricane passed by, everyone dropped everything and ran away. They even left wine on the table”, narrates Kátia.
Sofia, specializing in Brazilian food, was opened about a year ago by the chef from Rio. Kátia Barbosa is considered the inventor of the feijoada cake, one of the heritages of national gastronomy. Currently, she is a judge on the culinary reality series Mestre do Sabor — which only had one season aired on Globo but continues to air on GNT.
