After decades, the winter cruise in Greece begins

by

The restart of winter cruise in Greece was at the center of today’s meeting of the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias with senior executives of the Royal Caribbean Group.

As it became known, the company will launch in February 2023 a cruise route with a capacity of 2,200 passengers, with home port in Piraeus and stations in Cyprus, Israel and Egypt, a route with a strong cultural sign.

The company representatives welcomed the fact of the many daily direct flights from the USA. to Athens, as, as they pointed out, 60% of the passengers on the route will be American citizens.

They even pointed out that according to their estimates so far, at least 43% of passengers will spend more than one night in Athens, which is particularly positive for the city’s hotels and tourism businesses, while a large part of them will travel to other winter destinations.

As Mr. Kikilias stated after the meeting, “the goal of extending the tourist season is done with specific strategic steps. “Today’s announcement by the Royal Caribbean Group marks the substantial resumption of winter cruising in our country after decades and I am sure it will increase the growth dividend that tourism returns to the average Greek family.”

The meeting was attended by Messrs. Alessandro Carollo (Director, Government Relations), Adam Sharp (Director, International Destination Development) and Manolis Alevropoulos (Vice President, Marine Operations at Celebrity Cruises).
