Apple TV+ has given the “green light” for the ambitious new series “Cape Fear” with the legendary Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg working together as executive producers. The award-winning star, Javier Bardemwill play the main character and will also be involved as an executive producer.

“Cape Fear” is based on the novel by John D. MacDonald, “The Executioners,” which inspired both the 1962 film directed by J. Lee Thompson from storyboards by the iconic Alfred Hitchcock and the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg.

Described as “a contemporary and intense thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century,” the new series is created by Nick Antoska, who will also serve as an executive producer.

According to the official synopsis: “A storm befalls happy law couple Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, is released from prison.”

The 10-episode series comes from Universal Studio Group’s UCP and Amblin Television, while Universal Pictures co-produced the films. Bardem will also star in the highly anticipated Apple Original Films production ‘F1’ alongside Brad Pitt.
