Impressive… William Shatner is back… young (that’s 60 something to 30) as ‘Captain Kirk’ in the exciting new Star Trek short film.

The short film, which impresses with its de-aging effects, deals with death, or rather life emerging, and picks up where the film Star Trek: Generations ends. Except then “Kirk” was… a youthful 63 years old, so the stunning digital visual effects kicked into action. In fact, in some sequences Shatner appears as he was in the 60s TV series, that is around 30…

In the short film there is also a surprise appearance (maybe not so much…) that “breaks hearts”. Digital effects technology was also used for this character.

The film was made possible by Roddenberry Archive, which owns the rights to the franchise, and special effects company OTOY.

“The de-aging process removes years from your face, so in a film you can look 10, 20, 30, 50 years younger than you are” Shatner commented.
