The U2 return to the studio with drummer Larry Mullen J. guitarist The Edge revealed. Speaking to the BBC’s Joe Wiley to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’ album, The Edge revealed new information about the music in the works.

According to the guitarist, longtime drummer Larry Mullen J., who was forced to sit out the band’s historic Las Vegas Sphere shows due to injury and recovering from surgery, is now “fine” and “working loose, but it’s on the drums” in the studio.

The Edge revealed that U2 are now recording new music with Mullen J. “We’re in this great phase where we don’t have to think about it, we just make music and love the process. And then we’ll figure out how the material fits, so there are a few different projects.”

“Definitely U2 will be with Larry Mullen J. who’s great, we’ve got him in the studio… he’s good, he’s taking it easy, but he’s back on drums and recording with us so we’ll be doing more before the end of the year.” he emphasized.

But this is not the only project that U2 is preparing. Edge and Bono team up with Brian Eno for “some kind of crazy sci-fi Irish folk music”. On whether this material will be part of U2’s next album, Edge said: “We’re not sure yet, we’ll see.”
