Rapper Travis Scott, 30, hasn’t left his house since the tragedy during his show on the stage at Astroworld, in Houston, Texas (USA), on November 5th. Nine people died and several were hospitalized in the riot during the concert.
In a conversation with TMZ, the rapper’s lawyer, Ed McPherson spoke of how he is devastated by the tragedy because it happened in his hometown and he locked himself at home. “The fact that it happened to Houston, who he loves, and that there are so many people around, is particularly devastating.”
Travis has canceled his upcoming Vegas show this weekend and a petition is growing online to stop his main event at Coachella next spring. The lawyer says that introducing himself is the last thing on Travis’s mind at the moment and supporting the victims’ families.
Despite this, the victims’ families and many participants filed several lawsuits against the rapper. LiveNation, the venue, and rapper Drake, who made an appearance during Travis’ concert, are also suing.
Sources linked to the rapper told TMZ that he was never informed at the festival about the dead and injured people. According to sources, Travis did not know the gravity of the situation when he arrived at the after-show party and this remains consistent with the fact that no one, including the police, has publicly confirmed the seriousness of the events that took place there.
Drake, who threw the party and performed with Travis as a surprise guest on the show, also had no idea there were people dying in the crowd. According to TMZ, there were several people begging camera operators and others to stop the show.
Although Travis was at least 50 meters from the camera operator, sources said he did not hear calls to end the show because fans were dying. But when he learned of the tragedy he immediately left the party.
According to law enforcement authorities, the episode was triggered after fans started pushing each other towards the stage. After about 30 minutes, confusion escalated and what Houston Police Chief Executive Larry Satterwhite called a “mass incident” ensued.
“All of a sudden, we had a bunch of people on the floor going through some kind of medical episode,” he said. “It happened all at once, in a matter of minutes.”
The fire department took 25 people to hospitals in the region, 11 of which had cardiac arrest. Local police chief Troy Finner said one of the lines that will be investigated is that one person in the audience could be drugging others with a syringe.
According to him, a security guard felt a sting in the neck while trying to contain a disturbance and fell unconscious. Doctors, who revived him using an opioid antagonist drug, noticed a mark, similar to what a syringe would leave, on the agent’s neck.
Others in the crowd would also have passed out unconsciously during the performance.
After the tragedy, Travis said he would pay the funeral costs for the victims who died in his show. He will also team up with a company to provide mental health services to those in need.
