An ancient city unknown to the general public “travelled” from the heart of Macedonia to the Greek capital, to “introduce” itself to the public of Athens and invite them to discover it.

Europos, an important urban center of ancient Vottiaia, located 18 kilometers from Pella, between Axios and Goumenissa, was presented at the National Archaeological Museum, where the exhibition station “Europaion the Polis” is hosted.

It is a special expository narrative, consisting of five sections. Through them, aspects of the life of the citizens of Europe, the first people called Europeans, according to epigraphic testimonies, are illuminated. Seventeen original exhibits are also presented, which are framed by rich photographic and audiovisual material, which includes among others two short films, one about the ancient city and the archaeological site and a biography about Seleucus I, one of the greatest successors of Alexander the Great, whose birthplace was Europos.

The exhibition will remain at the National Archaeological Museum until March 16, 2025, while the opening ceremony held last Friday was prefaced by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni. The general director of the National Archaeological Museum, Anna Vassiliki Karapanagiotis, and the head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kilkis, etc., also spoke about the exhibition. Greetings were addressed by the second vice-president of the Hellenic Parliament, Giorgos Georgantas, and – on behalf of the Municipality of Paionia, the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Kyros Kalavazis.

This was followed by an ancient lyre concert, kindly sponsored by SEIKILO Ancient World Music, with the musicians Theodoros Koumartzis and Thanasis Kleopas, while afterwards, a guided tour of the crowd that attended the opening was held by Mrs. Army.
