Okay, surprises can happen, but judging by the repercussion on the networks, it was a mess. “What Xou da Xuxa is this?” was the grand champion of the F5 Award in the meme of the year category. The public chose the phrase — and the scene as a whole — by Patrícia Veloso as the most striking of 2024.

If you were on Mars and didn’t see it, we’ll explain what happened. As a child, Patrícia waited in line to enter an event where Xuxa would perform, in 1988. She asked a reporter who was there to film her and, angry, recorded an interview complaining that they let some adults in, while some of the children was left out. “What Xou da Xuxa is this?”, she exclaimed, furious.
Almost 40 years after being recorded, the moment — which had never been aired — appeared in the documentary “Pra Semper Paquitas”, released on Globoplay. Patrícia became famous, recorded publis, was invited to events and — now a woman — finally met Xuxa.
The meme was reproduced by thousands of people on the internet. It went viral, became popular, became a bar table talk. Any intriguing or revolting situation became an excuse to exclaim “What Xou da Xuxa is this?”.
For this reason, Patrícia also did well in the site’s vote and is the big winner of the F5 2024 Award in the meme of the year category. Congratulations, Patricia!
