Opinion – Thiago Stivaletti: ‘Amor da Minha Vida’ reminds us that Bruna Marquezine is a much better actress than an influencer

by

Bruna Marquezine has 45 million followers on Instagram. But, before and above that, Bruna Marquezine is a solar actress, one of those who elevates any project she works on.

Away from Globo soap operas six years ago – her last work was the villain Catarina in the failed “Deus Salve o Rei” –, she is back to remember her talent in “Amor da Minha Vida”, a delicious romantic comedy series from Disney+.

Her character, Bia, collects adventures and heartbreaks with the emotional support of her best friend, Victor (Sérgio Malheiros).

If you’ve ever seen any romantic comedy in your life, you know that what I’m going to say now is not a spoiler: after a lot of head-scratching, they will discover that they are the love of each other’s lives. This “surprise” (but not) is even included in the synopsis of the series that Disney+ includes in its catalogue.

And, as always, what matters is not what will happen, but how. Bia is an aspiring actress who goes from audition to audition without ever getting anything relevant. Victor is a straight-laced guy who inherited his father’s chandelier shop, loves making fancy burgers for his friends and cherishes his routine, addicted to the craziest reality shows.

Created by Matheus Souza, director of the great “So Fim” (2008) and co-writer of “Eduardo e Mônica”, “Amor da Minha Vida” won’t change anyone’s life, but it will make you sleep happier at night. It has great dialogues about life and love, the kind that make us miss Woody Allen’s good films. And – something very rare these days – it doesn’t skimp on the sex scenes.

Bruna shines in several moments, sometimes laughing and crying in the same scene, building the fragility and emotional knot of her Bia, always with lightness and humor. The cast is full of tasty affectionate appearances, such as Cissa Guimarães as the tough mother and Fernanda Paes Leme as Bia’s unusual love interest.

As icing on the cake, the photography and art direction are very inspired, in a profusion of colors that make us want to be neighbors with the characters. Bruna is so good that she even makes us forget her participation in “Blue Beetle”, one of the many superhero films that flopped at the box office last year.

“Amor da Minha Vida” comes to confirm what we already knew: our diva’s place is not parading “lookinhos” on her Instagram, much less complaining to the foreigners in Hollywood. He shines in good roles right here, in Brazil. And please, Bruna, don’t give up on soap operas for good; I feel like you still have a lot to give us there too.
