Actress who will play a lesbian in ‘Vale Tudo’ talks about her father’s reaction to coming out as a girlfriend: ‘Depressed’

One of Globo’s big bets for 2025 is the remake of “Vale Tudo”. The plot, which aired in 1988, will feature a lesbian couple, formed by Maeve Jinkings and Lorena Lima.

In real life, Maeve dates filmmaker Carolina Marcowicks, with whom she has been since 2022. They worked together on the film “Toll”. Previously having only heterosexual romances, the actress spoke about her family’s reaction at the beginning of the relationship and when she revealed that she was bisexual.

According to what the artist said on the podcast O Estranho Familiar, by Vera Iaconelli, columnist for Sheetthe mother took it well. With the father, it was a little more difficult.

“My father is 70 years old, from Paraíba, and he is politically progressive and morally conservative. We were a bit shaken for six months. I was depressed, it was very hard, horrible”, she said.

Little by little, the father got closer, asking about his girlfriend in phone calls. The change occurred even at his father-in-law’s wake.

“He called me to talk about repression from his friends about his stance,” he said. “His Bolsonaro father-in-law died, and at the wake some military friends arrived and one of them started talking about his daughter married to a woman. ‘He spoke about her with so much affection’, he told me.”

Maeve stated that this connection with her father was important for her to understand respect for his time. “It was the chance he had to elaborate on what he was reproducing.”
