The Princess of Wales will celebrate her birthday with few and far between at her home in Windsor
Kate Middleton celebrates her 43rd birthday tomorrow, after a year marked by cancer, a health adventure from which she wants to turn the page to respond more vigorously to her role alongside the heir to the British throne William.
This year, the Princess of Wales will celebrate her birthday with a few well-wishers at her home in Windsor, breaking with tradition of celebrating it surrounded by family and friends at the family home in Norfolk (eastern England).
With her every appearance under the ‘microscope’ of the media, Kate, with her slim figure and long brown hair, fascinates. And the difficult year that passed was no exception to the rule.
Firstly because of the mystery surrounding her illness, which the princess revealed in an emotional video in March, following weeks of speculation fueled by her absence and a controversy over a doctored photo of her with her children.
For many months afterwards, Kate remained low-key, focusing on her chemotherapy, which she announced ended with “relief” in early September in a new video.
In the video, which was shot in August, she appeared in the countryside with her husband and their three children, George, 11, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6, and spoke of an “extremely difficult” few months and her desire to ” continue to take each day as it comes.”
Enjoying huge popularity after her 2011 wedding to William, which marked her official entry into the royal family, Kate is the object of worship for the press, especially the powerful tabloids, who praise her elegance and warm attitude towards citizens.
The daughter of a flight attendant and an air traffic controller who made her fortune working her way up a party supply company, she met William in the early 2000s at St Andrews University in Scotland, where she studied art history.
Her rare appearances over the past year have monopolized the media’s attention, particularly her glitzy appearance at the end of December at the Princess’s traditional carol concert at Westminster Abbey.
He dedicated it to all those “who are going through difficult times”.
Before that, he had attended the official visit of the emir of Qatar to Britain in early September and had attended the annual anniversary concert in November in memory of British soldiers who died in battle. She had also accompanied William in October to the city of Southport, where three little girls were killed this summer in an attack that shocked the country.
Previously, she had only appeared twice in public: on June 15 for the parade in honor of King Charles, on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, then at the Wimbleton final in early July.
The royal couple are now looking to the future and the princess is expected to increase her public official appearances, particularly in relation to the education and childhood charities she supports.
A trip abroad with Prince William is not out of the question, as he also believes.
“I’m hoping Catherine will travel a bit more next year, so we may have other trips planned,” William said during his visit to South Africa in November.
The princess has not made an official trip in more than 14 months since she was in France for the Rugby World Cup.
Only Prince William has traveled abroad in recent months after many weeks of limited engagements to be by his wife’s side during her treatment.
In November, the heir to the throne confided that the time that passed, which was also marked by the cancer of King Charles’ father, was the “toughest” of his life.
