Actor and driver Caio Castro, 33, announced this Wednesday (15) a new partnership with fellow TV Globo actor Rafael Cardoso, 36, in the Porsche Sprint Challenge. The two will compete in Caio’s team (Red Ram), with two cars from the 991 4.0 generation.
“I believe that we can be everything we want in our life”, Rafael Cardoso told the press, classifying the news as a “dream” he had. “I’ve always been passionate about motorsport, I had already received an invitation to see the cars, when I saw Caio in the competition I thought it was amazing, we talked, and then Caio and Sandro invited me to be part of the team, to have this car in Caio’s team, and this is unprecedented in the category, there are no two cars per team”.
Caio also welcomed his friend. “I know his quality as a driver. The first time I drove a professional kart was in 2010, and Rafa was part of the same team. Last year, in the middle of a conversation, while he was still training kart, the invitation came”, revealed.
The actor has been driving since the age of 19, has raced in the Porsche Cup since 2020, and debuted last year in the Porsche Cup competition. In it, he won 17 trophies, including first place at Interlagos and the title of the 100th driver to win a Porsche Cup race.
”It was a year of many achievements, I am very grateful to my team that was together in all the challenges, believing and celebrating the achievements. This is going to be another new start, new year, new partner, but the field is full of very experienced and well-prepared riders, so it’s going to be a good season. I’m excited,” he said. “Any driver has thought about racing in Formula 1, but there are plans within Porsche, and I’m focused on achieving them.”
The 2022 season of the Porsche Sprint Challenge started its pre-season on March 11 and 12 in Interlagos, for testing the cars. The next race will take place on April 2nd and 3rd, in Goiânia, when Rafael Cardoso debuts alongside Caio Castro. In all, there will be six stages, including some abroad.
