Milton Nascimento, 82, participated on the night of Wednesday (12) in the portela rehearsal, samba school that will honor the singer at this year’s carnival.
Received with applause and tears, he sang excerpts from “Mary, Mary” and “In the Balls of Life.” The artist was accompanied by his son, Augusto Nascimento.
“Another historic day and a lot of emotion in our Portela court,” the association announced.
This is the first time that Portela has paid tribute to an artist in life, with the samba “Singing will be to look for the path that will take in the sun”.
“During all these years I have lived so many things that I never imagined that the universe would still reserve this moment,” Milton said about the honor. “Living such an experience is something so strong that I don’t even know how to describe it. But one thing is certain: my heart, now in blue and white, pulsates for you.”
Portela will be the last to parade on March 4, Carnival Tuesday, at the Rio de Janeiro Sambadrome.
Earlier this month, the school protested against Grammy for reserving a place in the singer for the singer on a prize night. Milton gave up attending the ceremony.
“We were caught by surprise by the way an icon like Milton Nascimento was treated. Those who propose to live on art, like the organizers of this award, need to be endowed with sensitivity, but it seems that this is the case,” said the board of directors , in note.
Milton competed for the best vocal jazz album award for “Milton + Esperanza”, a album made in partnership with the American Esperanza Spalding. The two lost the Grammy to Samara Joy, who won the category with the album “A Joyful Holiday”.
