Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, 26 -year -old Albanian descent Mario Banushi, the creator of a completely his own stage language, in Mami, who premiered on February 6th on the roof before embarking on his international journey, gives us a memorable life. Because in Banushi’s personal mythology, the almost homogeneous words “mam” and “mam” become identical. Mami, like mother. Mam, like food. Someone pulls out his heart and offers it to the other as a loaf of steaming bread.
In the show, the central scene of the roof turns into a memory landscape. Familiar and, at the same time, spooky. The interpreters, immersed in silence, make events of deep emotion and motivate us to recognize and face our own memories, our own relationships and the emotional heritage we carry.
Mario Banushi is already touring the world with his first works, Goodbye, Lindita (2023) and Taverna Miresia-Mario, Bella, Anastasia (2023), and is internationally welcomed as the Greek theater child. And while the subject in his previous performances was mourning, in Mami he sets up an unnecessary sacred in the mother -child relationship. To praise her. To exorcise her. To fill it with tams and anathema. To fall in love with her. Because, as he notes: “I always said that birth is an inverted love.”
Mario Banushi confesses for the show: “When I was about a year old, my mother was forced to leave me with my grandmother, Albania, and leave. Until my thirteen, “Mami” I was shouting at my grandmother. When my mother took me to Athens with her, I grew up in the apartment over the oven where she worked, with the smell of freshly baked bread.
I grew up with many women. I grew up with young and older women. I grew up with more than one mothers. This show is for them: a wish, a prayer to the weight that the word “mom” carries both for the one who listens to it and the one who says it. Who takes care of who – I never understood this complex relationship. And I will not even understand it. But I try to unwind her like an umbilical cord, like the viscera that connects life to her roots. ”
The new creation by the director-discovery is a visual poem about the mother and child’s relationship. A-reaction to the women who fed us.

Accessible performances
The performances on March 6, 7 and 8 will be presented in conditions of universal accessibility, in collaboration with the Liminal Cultural Organization. In particular, they include interpretation in the Greek sign language and hypertension for deaf and hearing hearing, as well as a tactile tour of the stage and acoustic description for people with visual damage.
