The Cretan lyricist, Vassilis Skoulas, who had fun with the Lyra and Nikolaos’ wedding to the wedding of Golden Vardinoyannis and Nikolaos, talked to the Political and Dimitra Darda.

The wedding was held at Agios Nikolaos Ragava in Plaka while the wedding reception was held at a historic building in Piraeus available for such events.

You were born in difficult times, in Anogia.

Hard seasons, with hunger, poverty, the village damaged by the Germans. We didn’t even have shoes. I remember barefoot with the children of the village running in the snow, chasing sparrows, catching them. We had no luxury, nor did we ever expect Santa Claus. At Christmas, we hoped a family would slaughter a domestic, so that we could all eat the pig’s bladder, inflate it, make it. I didn’t get a lot of play, I went to school to elementary school and when I returned home, I was flying the bag and grabbed the lyre.

Have you rejected partnerships even with top names?

Of course, my “no” were the most important. I do not believe that another artist has denied collaborations like those that suggest me. I had said, even if the biggest name of Greece or Europe comes in, I don’t go into the studio if I don’t want it, if I don’t care. And I say this for the first time now here. Many of these events, I mention in my autobiography that will be ready until May.

Even if the pay was five -digit?

I’ll tell you a story: Living in Crete with my shops, I didn’t know how it works here in Athens. In 1981 I accepted a very tempting financial proposal from the businessman of the Delina Entertainment Center and at the same time a proposal for any of my participation in the “Greek Cafe” show uploaded by Smaroula Giouli with Kostas Livadas in “Park”. In the theatrical couple I answered not initially, explaining to them that an appointment with Thomas Michaelides (“Dillina”) was preceded by them. I was honest. And they uploaded the cassette to lure you? They just told me “don’t close there, we want you so much”! The night businessman offered me a fee of 30,000 drachmas a night, at a time when I had no money to buy cigarettes. “How big do you want your name to the eaves?” He asked. “And what am I going to say?” I replied. “We will orchestrate you with Cretan songs, amane, radical.” “But I sing in my shop in Crete, how will I say here with such a large orchestra and instruments? How will I go down to the island afterwards? If I had an artistic disc, I would do it. ” “No, thank you,” I said and returned to the theater, I accepted the proposal with a fee of 2,500 drachmas a night! I never regretted it. I was lucky enough to have great experiences with a troupe of 75 people and I was the singer.

You also participated in the royal joys of Prince Nikolaos with Golden Vardinoyannis at the wedding reception.

I am a friend of the whole family and I very much appreciate “Captain” George Vardinoyannis. Our kids are very friends, too. When he called me, about twenty days before the wedding, I immediately received a lot of joy!
